Uncle demands 18-year-old niece pay him rent after taking her in, she refuses, claiming she can’t afford it, he tells her to figure it out: ‘You owe us for the years we took care of you’

The decision to charge children rent as soon as they turn 18 has been the topic of family disputes for years now. Some people think it is completely acceptable to expect kids to contribute to the household once they are done wth school, and are technically able to work and earn money for themselves. Others believe it is too harsh to expect kids to spend money just to be able to keep living in the house they grew up in, and would rather have their children save every penny they make for their future.

No matter which side you are on, one thing everyone should agree on is that each case is unique and should be treated individually.

For example, a 16-year-old girl who had to move in with her uncle after losing both her parents should not be expected to pay rent once she turns 18. She has been through enough, and she should focus her time and energy on her future, not on being able to afford a roof over her head. Unfortunately, her uncle doesn’t seem to agree with this statement, which is why he is demanding she start paying rent.

She has other plans, so keep scrolling to read the full story.
