Undervalued employee resigns during meeting with big clients, leaving execs red-faced: ‘I had an offer from a competitor in my pocket’

Timing is everything. Comedians know this to be true. The right joke at the wrong time… is the wrong joke. This is true for other things too. A well-timed text can break or break a night out. Let’s say you’re trying to convince your friend to come to the bar, and your text finds them right before they were about to put on their pajamas. You have a heck of a lot bigger chance of getting them to come than if you had sent it 5 minutes later, when they were already in their pajamas. The difference of minutes can be the biggest difference in the world.

This is true at work, too. Far too often, valuable employees are overlooked. Their contributions are taken for granted, and they don’t get the compensation they deserve. It’s like companies forget that it’s much cheaper to keep an employee than it is to find a new one. So it’s sadly up to those employees to take matters into their own hands and fight for themselves. This isn’t always easy, though.
