Is Harry Potter a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? It’s easy to argue that it’s both and neither. It’s similar to another movie featuring a main character named Harry: When Harry Met Sally. Both of those movies follow the main characters through years and different seasons of their lives. Pivotal scenes happen during certain holidays, but that doesn’t necessarily make them autumn or winter movies. 

Whether Harry Potter is a Halloween or a Christmas movie has a lot to do with when you watched it with your family. There are only a couple of Christmas scenes in the Harry Potter cinematic universe. Still, families often watch those movies over the holidays because they’re on winter break without anything better to do. Obviously, magic and witchcraft evoke the Halloween spirit, but I’m much more likely to watch kitchsy Halloween media during October than Harry Potter.
