Is it offensive to admit something that’s true?

You have to be aware of the kinds of messaging you’re sending off at work. You may be saying things with your appearance that you didn’t intend. That’s why your boss might want to control what you wear on the job. It’s why we have things like uniforms and dress codes. These can be annoying to deal with as an employee, but it’s understandable to a degree. But is there a limit to the kind of criticism you will take on your appearance in the workplace?

Retail environments can bring out the worst in everyone. Customers and workers like it. I don’t know why that’s true, it just is. Nobody wants to be there, and everyone is in a bad mood. And it makes people turn against one another. So it’s up to managers to protect their employees from the trials and tribulations of the retail environment. That’s not what the boss did in this situation, where they treated their employee poorly and didn’t have their back in a customer service interaction. The way the employee saw it, they were getting ahead of a question they were constantly being asked. The way their manager saw it, customers were upset, and they needed to blame someone. So instead of considering all angles of the situation, they jumped to the conclusion that their employee was in the wrong.
