School principal tells teacher she didn’t get a promotion in the school hallway: ‘In front of the students, whispering, as other classes walked by. I then had to continue to teach for the rest of the day.’

This principal in the pinnacle of unprofessionalism

Have you ever applied for a promotion at work, only to be denied? It’s awkward and humiliating. When you get rejected by an outside company, you can at least feel comforted by the fact that you never have to see the people who rejected you ever again. When your coworker or manager rejects you, it completely changes the workplace dynamic. It might inspire you to seek employment elsewhere.

There’s definitely a way to let a colleague down easily when telling them they didn’t get the position they wanted. Telling them in private, at the end of the day on Friday, gives them a chance to process the pain and disappointment of rejection for a couple of days before putting on a brave face and coming back to work. The principal in this story did the opposite, totally embarrassing a teacher in the process.
