Mom moves into sister’s house with iPad kids, gets annoyed when she limits screentime and gives them routine: ‘I send them to bed at 8 PM’

Few people enjoy being told how to parent, but sometimes interventions are necessary.

Sadly, many parents seem to think the task of parenting begins and ends with producing the kids. Anyone who has observed how children work knows that this couldn’t be further from the truth: it is a full-time job parenting kids who are likely to grow up into pleasant and well-adjusted adults (and even some of the less well-adjusted ones).

One of the more annoying things about parenting is dealing with other people judging your parenting skills, especially when you are struggling. However, there are times when it is pretty much justified. Also, if that judgment is combined with a successful attempt at help, what is there to complain about? Not a lot of non-parents are willing to step up and make a parent’s life easier without a price tag attached.

Coming to terms with the fact you have not been doing some things right as a parent can be a tough pill to swallow, not least if it is somebody else pointing it out to you. Even if they’re nice about it, there is every chance it will trigger some deeply-held inadequacies. It can become a very awkward situation.
