NYC restaurant charges Midwestern couple $60 in Diet Coke refills because the waitress didn’t tell them that refills weren’t free: ‘They still tipped though!’

Why didn’t they tell them that the refills weren’t free? Were they trying to ruin their vacation?

In some parts of these great United States, you don’t have to ask for a free refill. If you drink half of the Diet Coke in your giant plastic glass, the waiter will get you another one without a second thought. That is more common in casual restaurants throughout middle America. If you go to a nicer restaurant, you might not get 10 Diet Cokes in one sitting, and that’s probably for the best.

If you have only been to restaurants that offer free refills, you will rightfully feel blindsided if a restaurant not only doesn’t have free refills but also doesn’t tell you that they don’t have free refills. That happened to the midwestern couple in this story, and I feel bad for them.
