Who knew that working with your sister-in-law could cause you so much trouble?
Actually, now that we think about it, it might not have been so difficult to predict. Everyone knows that mixing family and business is a terrible idea, so as soon as a family member joins your workplace, you should expect nothing but trouble.
One will find issues in every business that involves family, even in those wholesome family businesses that run for dozens of generations. It’s incredibly difficult to combine a successful business with family relations, without things from one side getting mixed with the other. Emotions run high, and running a business with high emotions is generally a recipe for disaster.
Even if you’re not running a business together, but simply work at the same workplace, you will find that work stuff generally trickles into the family stuff, and vice versa. It won’t take long before something drastic happens, and both your relationship as family members and as coworkers gets damaged, if not utterly destroyed.
Take the two women in the story below as an example. They are soon-to-be sisters-in-law who briefly worked at the same office together, but ever since, their relationship has never been the same. Even though they were never more than coworkers, one was a better worker than the other, and it was clear for all to see. The one who struggled turned to the other for advice, but she was not a good listener, and everyone in the office could tell. The other employee, the one who was there longer and knew the job, wanted to minimize their contact at work and asked her boss to separate them, but their boss did one better and fired the SIL the very next day.
Since then, the fired SIL blames the other for her losing her job, and is sure that she was the one who convinced the boss to fire her. Is that really the case? Keep scrolling to learn.
