Have you ever wished to have a pet dragon?
Dragons and fantasy worlds have always fascinated us basic non-magical humans. Choosing between taking the subway at 8 am or hopping onto your dragon’s back and flying away, there’s a clear choice. Unless you’re afraid of heights, in which case, I’m sorry that you’ll never get to experience the wonder of riding on a dragon’s back.
Other than the political entanglements, the betrayals, the different subplots intertwining with each other, and the questionable finale, one of Game of Thrones’ main attractions, and my personal favorite, was Khaleesi’s dragons. And it seems like a fine moment to remember Drogon, Viseryon, and Rhaegal, with season three of House of the Dragon airing right now. I don’t want to talk much about HoD, in case someone is getting behind, and I also don’t want to spoil anything for those just now hopping on the Targaryen train with the rest of us. So for now, I’ll just focus on the original show. GoT ended in 2019, so you’ve had enough time to watch it. I’ll keep my HoD opinions and memes for when it is socially acceptable to rant about everything that I didn’t like, and celebrate what I did like. While I wait for that moment to get here, I’ll keep rambling about the O.G. show and all the great memes that it left for us.
There’s a popular agreement between all the fans that the last two seasons just weren’t what we had expected. Most of the characters’ fates were sad to say the least, others just borderline ridiculous, and the rest were simply meh… So much for the grand finale of a show with such a huge budget and loyal audience. Still, rewatching the first few seasons is just as hypnotic an experience as it was the first time.
A few weeks ago, my younger cousin started the show for the first time. I was sooo hyped and started babbling about all the background of the writing, the real history behind the books, the actual conflicts it was based on, and so on. Fan stuff, you get me. You will not believe my disappointment when this kid looked right past me and the TV and just started playing video games, WHILE THE SHOW WAS STILL ON. Of course, there are a lot of complicated plotlines, so my cousin started asking me: «What happened?» «Who is that?» «How did they get here?» I was sooo annoyed. He simply quit watching it in the end. I guess he’s just from a different generation; there’s nothing I can do about it.
All this to say that I miss the show a lot, and to ease that feeling of absence, here we have a list of memes!!! And for the record, pay attention to the plot and never forget: «Valar Morghulis.»
