Living with unsupportive parents is tough for any teen.
A stable home environment is one of the most important things that anybody can have growing up, and sadly, it is often treated more as a privilege than a right. For one reason or another, plenty of parents and guardians are incapable or unwilling to give kids the support that they need to thrive.
Understandably, anyone who finds themselves in this kind of situation usually wants to get out of it as soon as they are independent enough to do so. Few people want to stay that long in a place where they do not feel welcome, no matter how young they are. It is only natural to seek freedom from such an environment.
At the same time, leaving behind a home and family that are not as supportive as they should be isn’t always easy. You need some place to go and to be prepared for the ways in which those who are being left behind may react. Leaving behind the family home is a whole process even in the best of circumstances, so doing it when you are in a far less comfortable position is a whole other matter altogether.
