Can you really be blamed for answering a manager’s question honestly?
This new employee expected to get to know her coworkers in person, but quickly noticed that many of them were rarely in the office. During a routine meeting, she casually mentioned it to her manager, not realizing her colleagues had been bending the company’s remote-work rules. When management stepped in, her coworkers blamed her for exposing the arrangement.
I can totally relate to the OP here since she was totally unaware of the secret arrangement her coworkers had. Or, instead of an arrangement, I guess no one checked who went to the office and who didn’t, causing everyone to work from home. The new employee couldn’t know this, since there was no one there who could explain this to her.
Now, everyone is against her, and she feels extremely bad. How unfortunate it is to start at a new position and have everyone hate you for something you didn’t know? I really don’t think this is her fault. I think it’s the opposite: since everyone was working from home against company policies, they should be the ones feeling bad, not the OP.
Anyways, I’m curious to see what is going to happen to her now that everyone is going to the office and nobody talks to her. I believe that, eventually, they’ll forget about it and start treating her like normal. I guess she has to be patient and wait until everyone forgets about the issue for good.
