It’s the weekend; you planned on going to the beach or to the park with your friends, and, uh-oh, is that a cloud I’m seeing over there?
Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate with us or our plans. We get excited about doing something outdoorsy (rare, but it happens), we plan for days, we get appropriate clothing, pack our lunches, and just when we’re about to leave the house, BOOM! Thunder, it starts raining, and you have to stay inside. Bummer.
Rain can be fun in its own way, though. During summer, it can be a relief, and in the middle of the heatwave we’re having, we sure feel thankful for it. Besides, who didn’t love to go jumping in puddles as kids? Our moms were not too happy when we came back covered in mud, but oh well. There’s a reason why washing machines exist.
Rain also does a great job watering plants, and if you’re like me and always forget to water them, rain is single-handedly keeping them alive and preventing your garden from becoming a desert.
And if you’re planning a date with a special someone, remember that rain can have a bit of a romantic side as well. Every time I see rain, I remember that final scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s (if you haven’t seen it, you definitely should), when Holly Golightly and Paul Varjack meet again and embrace under the pouring rain. Ever since I saw it, I’ve dreamed about a romantic kiss under a summer downpour, and my fantasy still stands. Keep that possibility in mind the next time you go out with someone; your partner could turn out to be a hopeless romantic, and you might end up scoring some points with them.
All in all, rain isn’t so bad, even if it makes us stay home most of the time. There are upsides to everything, and rain isn’t just useful or romantic but also beautiful and fun. Remember that the next time you get bummed for cancelling plans over a sudden storm, and while you do that, take a look at these memes! We found them just for days like that.
