Accidentally Renaissance, or Baroque?

I want to start by saying I KNOW the difference between Baroque and Renaissance, but I wanted to be loyal to the meme category.

The actual category is called Accidental Renaissance, and it has a pretty intense internet history. Anyway, this compilation explores how modern life, caught with the right eye, with the right framing, and the perfect light, can look a lot like one of those antique paintings hanging in European Museums.

Renaissance paintings are characterized by symmetry, harmony, and balance. Their light is usually diffuse and soft. Baroque paintings, on the other hand, are more dramatic; their light is harsh and directional, and they tend to represent the moment of peak drama, while in the Renaissance it was all about the calmness that surfaced after an event.

So either way, I’ve put together a compilation for you to delight in seeing dramatic, real-life Baroque moments, as well as in seeing peaceful and moving ‘Modern Renaissance’ photographs.

To me, the most interesting thing to observe in these pictures is that these different aesthetics don’t really require specific characters or scenarios; they are all about the one who’s watching, taking the picture, or painting. It’s about a way of seeing things; it’s about what you choose to capture.
