What’s your favorite day of the week?
As soon as Monday hits, we hope the weekend will arrive. Weeks tend to stretch too long and leave us too tired. All we want to do is clock out, say goodbye to everybody, close the laptop, and never check another email for the rest of our lives. Unfortunately, that is not possible, so we have to make do with the weekend. We get through the week by counting the days left until Friday, and that keeps us a little more sane.
We hope to have the time and energy to do all the things we can’t do during the week: doing laundry, cleaning the house, doing our meal prep… We plan to do so much during the weekend that we’ll hardly get any rest. Of course, what we plan and what we actually get to do are not necessarily the same. We make up an entire schedule in our minds: «I’ll get up at 6 AM, go for a run and come back, take a shower, do laundry, do last night’s dishes, sweep the floor, and blah blah blah.» Yeah, we’re not even going to do half of it. We don’t have the energy.
What we need to keep in mind is that resting is also important, and it helps us stay happy and healthy, so we can keep living in this society and thriving in our daily activities. We can plan all we want, but we need to find balance. One chore at a time. If we’re doing laundry, we can afford to sleep a little bit later; if we’re getting up early, we can take a midday nap. It’s not the end of the world if we’re not being productive 24/7. We need to stop thinking in such a utilitarian way, take a step back, touch some grass, and acknowledge the fact that we’re not robots; we’re humans. We’re allowed to be tired and to take breaks. We can go for a walk in the park, have a nice dinner with friends, or simply stay home and sleep and watch Netflix all day! No one is rushing us, and the world is not about to end.
This meme list is to enjoy while we take our well-deserved break this weekend!
