Another school year starts, along with a new season of cafeteria chaos.

Yes, folks, that time of year has arrived once again. It’s back-to-school week, and many kids are getting ready to start another year of classes, exams, gossip, and, of course, school lunches at the cafeteria. 

Lunch at school is always fun because we get to relax after a loooong morning of lessons and paying attention. It’s always good to chill a bit before getting back in there. Now, although it can be the best time of the day, the food that is placed on your tray can seriously impact your mood. While some people decide to bring their own food and avoid those mysterious concoctions, others are much braver and decide to eat at the cafeteria.

Of course, it all depends on the school. Some cafeterias serve school lunches that seem to come from a five-star hotel, while others… you don’t even know if it’s mashed potatoes or maybe a white mush that relates to mashed potatoes but tastes completely different. If you go to a school that serves a good lunch, good for you! We all envy your luck and wish we were you… But for the ones who had to beg every single day for a proper meal, these school lunch failures are for you.

I have to admit that now that I’m out of school (obviously), I had a good time looking for these lunch fails. It really reminded me of those days when walking to the cafeteria became a long prayer, begging for something good to eat. But you knew as soon as you walked in, when that smell hit you, that was going to be another day of not knowing what’s on your tray. Of course, I always ate it all because my hunger was bigger! 

But now that I’m thinking about it as a grown adult, and with back-to-school season bringing all those cafeteria moments, I wonder why I didn’t bring my own food? Of course I didn’t because I was a lazy girl, but still, I should have done so and saved myself from days of disappointment.
