It doesn’t matter if they are truly relatable or something more abstract; the fact is that they manage to do something that makes us think twice and, most importantly of all, entertain us in a way that goes beyond pure distraction. Those moments can be few and far between, but that is what makes them all the more special. The very best feel almost fated, like they were just waiting for us to scroll past them.

These silly little images would not be able to affect us in this way unless, somewhere in the process, there was a real person behind them with thoughts and feelings that, for whatever reason, they feel the need to transfer to this medium. We would never know about them unless they had the urge to make a meme and give us the privilege of that particular insight. Sometimes it feels like more of a curse than a privilege, but it is an interesting piece of internet ephemera nonetheless.

While there are certainly times when looking at memes isn’t exactly going to feel that inspiring, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t persist in using it as an easy and accessible form of amusement. There is just too much out there to assume there is nothing more that will feel like it is specifically made for you, and that is one of the best feelings a person can have when scrolling for hours on end.
