Just because art tends to be serious, it doesn’t mean we can’t laugh and make some good memes about it!

Enjoying art tends to be seen as a snobby thing, like you need to be a real connoisseur to walk into a museum and truly appreciate the works on display. You have to know a lot of art history, different painting techniques, the life story of every artist, their methods, the aesthetic they portrayed, and the time period they belonged to. It’s a lot. And yes, knowing a little bit of these things can sure help you to understand everything better, and coming across an artist or a work you already know is a wonderful sensation. It almost feels like solving a puzzle you didn’t know was dismantled. But other than that, no, you don’t need to major in art history to go to a museum and get lost among the walls decorated with some of the most beautiful works in existence. Going in with curiosity and love for art is more than enough. 

The thing is that if everybody keeps treating art like an unattainable thing, it will remain that way. Any form of art is ultimately a form of self-expression, and denying that to anybody is just not right. Art should be for everybody, whether they know who Picasso was or not. And no, that doesn’t mean we should stop studying it; it just means that not everybody needs to be an expert. We don’t expect that everyone who goes to the movies knows everything about filmmaking; why do we expect it when it comes to painting? Is it great to understand techniques? Absolutely. Can we all learn a little bit more about how some paintings or sculptures were made? For sure, but that’s the fun part: the learning part. That’s also what museums are for: learning about art and getting inspiration.
