When was the last time you had a good night’s sleep?
I get it; being a first-time mom is quite the challenge. There are a lot of new things to get used to, for both the baby and the mom. The baby is just now trying to understand a world he was sent into without asking it, and it’s a lot louder and colder than he was used to. The mom is learning to trust her instincts, learning to understand her baby’s signals and needs while also trying to rediscover herself and wrap her head around the fact that now she’s fully responsible for that fragile and defenseless little human. Seriously, being a mom should be considered a superpower.
I guess because it’s so natural, and that’s the way humans just keep existing, sometimes we forget how great a job being a mom is. No matter how much we like to think we are evolved, and fathers have as much responsibility in their children’s lives as the moms do, we should see reality as it is. Yes, fathers are actually parenting, which is more than we can say about previous generations, but moms are still the primary caregivers. They are the ones who carry the babies for 9 months; they are the ones feeding them; they are the ones recognizing the different kinds of crying; they are the ones the kids call for when they’re sad or hurt. This doesn’t mean at all that fathers are expendable; it’s actually the opposite. Moms and babies need them now more than ever, especially for nap time, night feedings, and generally, just being there participating in the whole process. Basically, being parents.
Moms have enough responsibilities as it is, so they also deserve some time to relax and be themselves, and why not throw a few good laughs in the process? There are situations that all moms will relate to. This is your chance to feel seen, appreciated, and to have a good time while your baby is finally asleep!
