Your Dasher is almost here!
In that most memorable year of 2020, food delivery apps went from something that weird rich people used to something that the average Joe could and should participate in for the good of the economy. In 2019, ordering a private car for a bucket of KFC to be driven directly to your house was outright absurd. You could order pizza and Chinese food for delivery, but that is because those things were both cheap and traveled well! A burger and a milkshake are way less tasty when they’ve spent 45 minutes in a hot car, but that doesn’t stop millions of people from ordering them from Uber Eats and DoorDash again and again
In the modern era, there are several kinds of food delivery app users. Some of us use it only when we’re sick or can’t leave the house; others never use it and see it as a colossal waste of money; and others use it regularly. Maybe you’re one of those people who used it all the time in 2020 and 2021, then stopped once it was easier to leave the house. Maybe you use it every one in a while, and don’t understand why people object to it morally. Maybe you’re a Dasher who relies on people being too lazy to leave their homes for McDonald’s to feed your family. Whoever you are, you probably have some opinion on food delivery apps, especially if you clicked on this article.
There are a few good reasons to order food delivery multiple times daily for over a week. If you are deathly ill and cannot leave your room, that’s one thing. But even if you’re sick, I don’t think a cold Popeyes sandwich will do you much good. The funniest justification I’ve ever heard for ordering Uber Eats daily was when my friend traveled to Miami and forgot her ID, debit card, and credit card. The only way she could get food was to order delivery to her hotel with the card saved to her account. That’s the most valid excuse of them all.
