I did it. I went too far with my gym obsession, and now I have to rest for an entire week
Take this as a cautionary tale. Do not get too excited about what you can lift. It’s better to go little by little. If you add too much weight, your joints might not be ready, and it’s going to hurt.
I think I hurt my knee yesterday. I was adding too much weight to every exercise just because I could lift it, and because I love feeling like I’m pushing myself to my very best, but that might not be the best strategy.
When you’re at the gym for hours, your muscles might be warmed up and not feel the excessive load, but they will definitely feel it later. Trust me, it’s better to increase your loads little by little.
You just have to find that sweet spot between pushing yourself enough to make progress, but not so much that you hurt yourself. If you’re lucky enough to stop before you get injured, give yourself time to recover and make sure you won’t make the same mistake ever again. At least that’s what I’ll do.
I hate it because I just started running and wanted to get back at it, but health is first. I’m hoping this will be my ultimate lesson, and I’ll take on more responsibility from now on; we don’t need an injury right now, guys! Life is hard enough as it is. Plus, we go to the gym to increase our pleasure, not to decrease it.
So that’s my advice this Wednesday, along with some memes for you to laugh at while you recover from an injury or learn how to prevent one.
Anyway, do you have any advice to share on preventing gym injuries?
