‘Stop Normalizing Hyperindependence and Start Normalizing Whatever This Is’: 17 Cute Winnie the Pooh Memes to Celebrate His 100th Birthday

We need to celebrate this hundred-year-old fluffy bear who does very little and is always hungry and sleepy

Winnie the Pooh first appeared in 1926, specifically on October 14 of that year, so this month, the animation turns 100.

The character was created by A. A. Milne, and it was inspired by his son’s relationship with his stuffed animals. Quickly after it was published for the first time, it became a beloved part of many children’s lives, at least for the next hundred years that followed.

Beneath the animation’s gentle humour, lay many deep reflections about loneliness, companionship, and the strange melancholy growing up evokes.

Every Pooh friend is different; Piglet is anxious, Eeyore is rather sad, and Tigger has bouncing energy, and they all make an effort to show up for each other. If that’s not beautiful to you, I don’t know what is.

Pooh, like many children’s characters, is often unintentionally philosophical, and his relaxed, solitary way of living makes me think about other ways of living in this fast-evolving world of ours.

Pooh’s life is not about big achievements, but about enjoying simple pleasures like eating, drinking a cup of tea with a small group of friends, sleeping, and the softness of your pajamas against your skin.

Perhaps there is something radical about Pooh’s way of living that we can integrate today, and growing up means returning to that simpler state that we often forget as adults.

I’m always intrigued about what makes certain stories stand the test of time and what makes others fail. I think the stories that stay relevant always have one thing in common: they appeal to children and adults at the same time.

Characters like Winnie, or SpongeBob (which I often write about here), teach us deep truths about relationships and life that are valuable no matter your age, and that’s why it’s always beautiful to return to them when we’re all grown up, or to share them with the youngest in our families (At least until they complain because the cartoons look ‘too old’, lol).

I hope Winnie the Pooh remains famous for many years to come, and that many more generations can enjoy his kindness and tenderness.

So happy hundredth birthday, Pooh; may your honey always be sticky, delicious, and full, and your friends always be there next to you.

Sometimes it’s enough to have good friends (even if they’re all flawed in their own way), a little honey, and nowhere important to go. If that’s not worth celebrating a hundred years, then I don’t really know what is.

Shouldn’t we all call it quits and move to the Hundred Acre Wood? We’ve had enough of these big cities and Excel sheets; we have to admit nobody is really happy.

Maybe Pooh really had something to teach us after all, and there is no better time to learn it than on his birthday.

So if you’re lazy or hungry today, enjoy the official hundred-year-old Pooh meme list! He deserves it!
