17-year-old daughter retrieves late mother’s belongings from the garbage after her stepmom tosses them out, father takes stepmom’s side: ‘I’m not giving them back’

When a beloved parent passes, especially in a time in your life when you’re still going through the motions of growing up, is exceptionally difficult. This is especially true when the surviving parent moves on with someone who couldn’t care less about keeping the memory of your late parent alive. I truly never understood the issue with keeping mementos around in this regard; the person who has passed is gone, forever, and it’s only right to keep things that will keep the memory of them alive. When a child misses their parent, they should be able to look at what they left behind as a source of comfort.

In this next story, however, a 17-year-old daughter has to stop her stepmom from discarding all of her late mother’s belongings. Well, the stepmom decided to throw them out despite the daughter’s pleas, but the daughter retrieved them from the trash and took them to another family member’s house to keep them safe. Still, the stepmom thinks she’s entitled to discarding the items and the father, the late mother’s widow, is on the stepmom’s side. The daughter refuses to accept her stepmom after the fiasco.
