Many people these days believe that in order to succeed in life, you don’t really need talent anymore, all you need is to know the right people. Connections are much more important now than actual skill, which means that without knowing people who can help you get ahead, you don’t really stand a chance of succeeding.
While those statements have some truths, the world is not black or white. It sure does help to know people who can help, but hard work is still very much required. It’s not fair to assume that every successful person we know has gotten to where they are simply because they knew the right people.
Even if you did have people supporting you, why is that wrong? Why wouldn’t we rely and lean on people who can actually assist? This life is hard enough, there is no reason to make it harder by telling ourselves that the only way to success is on our own.
