What would you do if a voice from the past left you one final treasure hunt?

Every family has secrets… some of them are happy ones, and others are more difficult to understand. Some secrets never come out and are buried forever with the person who carried them. 

However, we have a grandkid who was lucky enough to find a secret that his grandfather had kept until he passed away. When they were in his attic, they found an old cassette inside a Walkman that had a very clear sign: ‘DO NOT PLAY – 1993’. The batteries were old, but curiosity won, and they decided to change them and play the record.

The machine played his voice, but a younger version of it- not a voice that the grandkid has ever heard- but he was still able to recognize that it was indeed his grandfather speaking. The record was twelve minutes long and had clear instructions about a treasure he had hidden below the maple tree in his backyard. He told him where to start digging and what he would find.

Turns out that inside a metal box there were pictures he took of his grandmother on their first day, as well as a letter that he had written to himself the night he was going to propose to her. But he found some other thing that brought them to tears. 

Inside the box, there was a letter addressed to them, to their future grandkid, and it said that he was glad he didn’t chicken out and was brave enough to propose to her. The letter was more recent than the one before, because it had some other messages to the grandkid’s mother about the meatloaf she likes. Needless to say, they were both in tears and very happy to have found that box.

Families do have secrets, but the good ones are meant to be shared with the rest of the family. With them, future generations get to know more about their ancestors, and that’s something always worth it.
