How long did we wait for this moment to get here? ‘Enola Holmes’ movie is finally out!
My, my, it has been quite some time since we got the last movie. It was 2022, no less! Four years sounds like an exaggerated amount of time; we had almost forgotten! Almost, but not really.
We all have our reasons to complain to Uncle Netflix over some decisions he made about his productions, but at least we get what we want in the end. I was starting to believe they had secretly cancelled my dear last Enola movie. Luckily, it just took an awful lot of time to film and produce everything. It’s finally out, and we’re thankful for it; that’s all that matters.
I love these movies exactly for the same reason I love BBC Sherlock. They might not be the most accurate representation of the characters in the book, but it’s an excellent way to present the story to new and younger audiences. It’s fun, interesting, and has that mysterious element we all love while keeping the lighthearted tone.
I was really excited when the first one came out, not only because I love all things Sherlock Holmes, but because a young girl was the leading character. There’s this idea of Sherlock and his family, all boring men in suits who are way too smart to even be polite or have emotions. It’s not really the case, not even in the books. Sherlock tends to be quite considerate. But still, I like the fact that they made up a sister for him. It conveys the idea that a young woman can be as smart and capable as he is shown to be. And it makes us feel included and seen. If we can’t relate to Sherlock himself, we sure can relate to his sister. I know that Enola Holmes was originally a book series by Nancy Springer, so we should also be thanking the author for coming up with the idea in the first place. With a bit of luck, those who like these films will turn to the books, Nancy’s and the originals.
