Gen X: some adults and pretty grown-up people who are still cooler than we are. 

Gen X always seems like such a cool generation to be a part of. I don’t know if it’s because they are over 40 years old and they don’t care anymore or if it’s because of just how cool they always were. But they do seem like the popular kids at school who had a lot of inside jokes that you were never going to be a part of. There was a time when millennials were everything; they came in feeling like the coolest kids with all their new ideas and trends that nobody who wasn’t them was going to be a part of. This was very disruptive to the previous generations, and there was some beef between Gen X people and Millennials. But then Gen Z came, and they started to laugh at the Millennials with their unfunny memes, bubbly personalities, and awful mustaches everywhere. That made Gen Z and Gen X start to bond; it also helped that a lot of Gen Xers were the parents of said Gen Zs. They may have a lot in common, but that doesn’t mean that they always understand each other. 

Some studies have shown that Gen Z and Gen X have similar political and ethical views to Millennials. But they also have some of the same aspirations. The problem is that Gen Xers were born into a world that doesn’t exist anymore. In their time, they were used to going to somebody’s house out of nowhere without texting them first; they saw classifieds in the paper where they could see what jobs were available and just present themselves; they could go to a store and ask for a job, and that would actually work — without having to manually write their information for an AI bot to read and disregard immediately. The way they lived is so far away from what it is now; the internet wasn’t a thing! So, even though Gen Z shares a lot of views with them, they can’t achieve them, at least not in the same way that Gen X did. It’s crazy how much the world can change in just a few decades, but well, at least now they have a generation which they can talk and have meaningful conversations with. And also make fun of the Millennials together.
