It’s hard for me to believe that if you divide it by geographic regions, I’ve spent most of my life in the southern United States. Well, that is, if you count Texas as «the South» and not just as its own cultural entity, which, if you do, is fair enough. I don’t find myself missing Texas as much as I thought I would, but there are things about it that just can’t be replicated up here. For instance, the Texas skies are to die for. I see a sky in NYC that evokes a Texan sky, and it will disappear in less than five minutes. In Texas, it looks like rainbow sherbert ice cream has been painted over the firmament by God at least five nights a week, and it never gets old. If, like me, you’re from the South and miss its flat land and glorious fried food, these Southern memes might bring you some comfort.
