Classical art memes are a reminder to all of us 21st-century folk that humor is timeless, and so is art. It is our human nature to make funnies out of nothing. Whether that’s a coping mechanism or simply because humans are pretty cool, I’m not sure. What I am sure of, though, is that artists back hundreds of years ago almost seemed like they knew memes were going to be a thing at some point. Don’t ask me how. Maybe there’s a time machine involved… Some paintings of old kings and classical fellas could be reaction pictures on iFunny circa 2008… which is pretty dang cool.

Now, classical paintings don’t feel nostalgic to us because we aren’t over 100 years old.
