Food is universal. We survive by eating food, we psychologically enjoy eating food, and our entire culture is based around food. Sauces, braises, and simmering yum-yums await us at the end of a hard day, and our appetite for deliciousness never wavers. And even if your work lunch was a pathetic, bad-ratio PB&J sandwich, you can still redeem your daily consumption with a scrumptious meal at home instead. Perhaps a crispy, fresh salad awaits you, or a juicy home-grilled burger is calling your name, or maybe it’s a cornbread and chili kind of night.
However, not all of us are master chefs up in the kitchen, so there’s always a Plan B waiting in our takeout brochure drawer. And for me, even with a full fridge of groceries, sometimes the hankering for sushi is too strong to resist, and I must partake in a little luxury. Once in a Blue Moon, the takeout werewolf in all of us howls at the night sky and demands a delicious offering to be appeased.
And who are we to deny the desires of the beast? Order that takeout food! Enjoy it! And maybe you’ll get to the food in your fridge some other day. But tonight, we feast.
