22-year-old daughter refuses to acknowledge her 6-year-old half-sister because she’s the product of her father’s infidelity: ‘I don’t want to be the bigger person’

Why is the youngest sibling always the parents’ favorite? Growing up, my younger sister annoyed me incessantly. We had a two-year age gap between us, but when I was ten years old, I felt like she was four. It’s hard to imagine having a sister who is sixteen years younger than me and still treat her as the «annoying younger sister». But what about a half-sister? And what if the circumstances behind her existence involve some complex and unhappy times from the family’s past? Could you separate your feelings about your father’s indiscretions from the direct product of that: your six-year-old half-sister?

Personally, yes. But I’m not the subject of today’s story: a twenty-two-year-old who hates her father (and by association, his six-year-old daughter) because he cheated on his wife while she was dealing with a serious illness. She’s expected to put her «pride» aside and be a sister to the six-year-old, but she doesn’t think she has to ever since her father chose another family instead of her and her late mom.
