When was the last time you visited your local library?

If it has been a while, maybe it is time to think about paying a visit. A library is a public service that offers way more than just books. It is a shared community space, somewhere to access information, or even just a place to stay warm and comfortable for a little while. That being said, the books are, of course, an essential part of the operation too; most people can benefit from doing just a little more reading. Knowledge is power, as they like to say.

Many like to argue these days that mainstream culture and society are conspiring to make us all dumber, and for all the doom and gloom, there is a simple way to counteract that. Pick up a book! What’s great is that you do not even have to pay for the privilege, so long as you are within a reasonable distance of your local library. New members and more books taken out only underline the importance of their existence, and you can contribute to that while also giving your brain a boost with some reading (even if it is not with the most intellectual of titles).

As an autumnal chill starts to prickle in the air, there are few better wholesome fall activities than curling up with a good book. Whether you do that in the library or at home is completely your choice. The main thing is that you show your support by using that card.
