Birthday parties were better in the 90s. Your mom would get a big cold cake from the Jewel and you and all of your classmates would just go in. You’d drink Pepsi Max and eat pizza and run around Chuck E Cheese ruling the world. It hit a little harder. But this is probably a classic case of things just being better because you were a child. Turning 8 is a lot more fun than turning 32… if you let it be.
But there are plenty of things that get better as you age. Like being able to buy yourself a birthday gift (aka a new humidifier from Target that you’ve been looking at for a long time), and choosing how many friends to invite to your birthday dinner (nothing north of 6 because that’s getting greedy.) But just because some things are better now doesn’t mean we can’t look back fondly on the 90s.
