No other genre of music gets quite as much hate as country. But if you love it, you love it. And it’s not going anywhere. From the days of country outlaws Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings to the everlasting reign of the universally beloved Dolly Parton, to the country’s new wave of Kacey Musgraves and Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, county music has captured the hearts of millions. And for good reason: it captures a particular down-home feeling of family, togetherness, and longing. 

But some are born into loving country music and some have loving country music thrust upon them. With a big Texas family, I had no choice. I knew how to two step before I learned how to walk. To me, there’s nothing quite like having a cold beer on a hot summer’s day, hanging out with loved ones, and listening to a little country.
