Dogs are always doing the unexpected. You are never quite sure what their next move is going to be. They could chase their own tail, which is always a delight. They could bark at a shadow you didn’t see, or a bird that doesn’t exist. They could come running up to you wanting to be scratched, or they could fall asleep in an instant. Unlike humans, their motives are not always clear (well, I guess that’s true of us too). They follow stimuli and don’t have great senses of memory. That’s why when you’re gone for 20 minutes it feels like a lifetime for them. They’re living in the moment. 

This is one of the many things that we could stand to learn from dogs. We humans are not great at living in the present. We’re always dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Dogs are always just right there.
