The NYC marathon was yesterday, and the best part of it wasn’t the runners, but the signs.
Every year, the marathon comes and goes, and every year, we get a wonderful crop of signs from it. It has sort of become a competition over the years (more so than the running itself). The most clever, topical signs win our hearts. And if you weren’t at the event- personally, I avoided it like the plague because it has a real way of gumming up the sidewalks- then you still might want to get in on the fun of the signs. The marathon is a reason for folks all over the city to get together and cheer each other on. It’s a great, big celebratory event, and it’s a cool thing to witness. If you’re not running it, or if you don’t know anyone running it, then you can still get in on the fun. You can stand on the sidelines, watching them run by, and you can cheer them. It’s a great way to participate in community, if you’re not a Scrooge like me.
