What is fiction but a dream of another world? Even in the most true-to-life stories, there is something fundamentally unreal about them. This is the convention of the form. You make something up, then it only exists on the page, on the screen, or the stage. Science fiction is just another form of this kind of unreality, just exploited to the max. 

But some science fiction is weirdly true to life. Ever watched The Truman Show- a movie about a man whose entire life was a reality TV experiment? Sounds pretty far out until you think of all the intimately invasive reality shows we currently have on the air. Or if you’ve ever seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, you’d probably be pretty spooked at how much more advanced our current AI is compared to HAL. It’s all an interplay between truth and fiction, just like these memes, that tell the truth about some pretty far-flung worlds.
