One time for a school play where I was playing an ER nurse, the school took us to an actual hospital and let us have interviews with real doctors and nurses. The ER doctor told us, «Nothing in your life prepares you for the exhaustion of working a 12-hour shift at the ER and having to keep all your faculties sharp on zero sleep in order to save lives. Nothing except being a parent.» So if that makes you feel better about your parenting, then heck yes.
Parenting is all about conserving one’s energy. There might be a lot of stuff you dream of doing as a parent. You read all the books and scroll all the blogs, and then you wake up and you’ve only gotten 3 hours of sleep, and everything you’ve ever learned goes straight out the window. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
