The beauty of Star Wars is that it encapsulates so many genres in one franchise. It’s equal parts Western, Sci-Fi, war film, fantasy epic, and sometimes rom-com. It sort of burst forth a new genre in itself by combining so many others. Now, it’s hard to imagine a movie, series, or franchise that feels anything like Star Wars in terms of scope and scale. Some of the superhero movies try to, yet remain staunchly in the superhero category. There are one-off sci-fi epics, but none with worlds as richly realized and fleshed out. Perhaps Dune is coming up behind Star Wars in terms of epicness, but its popularity is nowhere near as widespread. 

Who knows, maybe another franchise is being born in the mind of a Hollywood geek right now, and in 5 years we will all know its power. Or we’ll just keep getting new Star Wars stuff. Both are fine with me.
