Baking bread may be the new form of mental health.
Baking has always been a known way to relax. Unless you were like me, who can’t bake for the life of me. But usually, when somebody is stressed out, it’s not weird to see them baking as a way to chill and be back in the moment. What changed, in my perspective, is what’s being baked. Before, everyone was baking cakes or brownies. If you came home to your stressed, overworked mom, you would have found a chocolate cake on the table, not bread. But what changed? Or better said, how did it change?
I do think that all of this started due to TikTok. It seems to be as if everything started there. But truly, there was a rise in social media of people baking bread, especially sourdough bread. And that simple couple of videos soon became a trend, and lastly, something that people actually do outside of the videos. Now, I’m always getting bombarded with bread-baking videos, but I’m also seeing it with my friends and family. It’s a good example of what a trend actually is. Is something that starts in one little video. Then it becomes thousands and millions. But the definite trend-setting example is when you see it in daily life. It’s not just an influencer doing a paid partnership video about baking sourdough bread. It’s also your coworker doing that same recipe.
So now, baking bread seems to be the new way of dealing with stress. And it’s great. It’s a healthy way to deal with your problems, especially the ones that you seem to be keeping just for yourself. And you also get a great, delicious bread that you can eat and enjoy. So it seems like a win-win to me. So keep on baking, whether it’s bread, cake, brownie, or whatever. Do whatever you like that actually helps you to keep your mental health great, your stress low, and your happiness and chillness as vivid as you can. So, keep on baking bread, or at least enjoy the memes about baking bread that I left below.
