Comedy is all about intention. If someone makes you laugh on purpose, you start to respect them. If someone makes you laugh by accident, it may make you look at them a little differently. And if someone can do either of those things on a regular basis, you start to want them around more and more. Humans value laughter. For whatever reason, we love when things make the sides of our mouths rise and a funny little sound comes out of our throats.
We love it when it happens to us involuntarily. Unless we’re at a funeral, then we… get embarrassed about it. And because we love to laugh, we love the things and people who make us laugh. We develop affinities for certain comedians, for certain television shows, and for certain members of our friend groups. It’s all a natural part of being human. We love to get a little silly with it.
