Who in their life hasn’t failed in a spectacular way? It’s a rite of passage as a human being. We have to fail publicly or we will never learn. That’s basically the whole point of childhood. We learn languages because we keep trying and failing to make sounds until we find the right ones. At school, we try and fail at different subjects until we find one that interests us. In relationships, we try and fail until we find someone special. Failure is part and parcel of the human experience.
Then why is it so funny to us to watch other people fail? Maybe we recognize that human instinct and the recognition is enough to make us laugh. Or perhaps some of them are so out there that we wonder what could have possibly gone wrong to result in that failure. Or maybe we’re just sick individuals who like seeing other people suffer because it makes us feel better about ourselves.
