Working a 9-to-5 job is not for the weak, and yet, most of us manage to do it.

We would like to have a chat with the person who decided that everyone must work 8 hours a day, almost every day, for the majority of the best years of our lives. In fact, it’s kind of crazy to think that since we are toddlers, we have been stuck in some kind of structure that took those 8 hours away from us. It started with school, proceeded to college, and now, with a job, that someone feels much worse than the other two.

Unless you took some gap years somewhere in between, you probably did not spend much time outside of that framework of a 9 to 5 lifestyle, and you probably won’t get to for a very long time either.

Yet, somehow, we make it work. We fit our whole lives into the 24 hours we get every single day, and manage to include these 8 hours where we are forced to make a living. People fit in their hobbies, their family and friends, and even some alone time into their tight schedules, and they manage to stay content with the outcome. As long as we stay fulfilled, we can make these constricting rules work for our benefit.

And let’s not forget the precious PTO time we get for actually persisting with our mundane jobs. A vacation is sometimes all you need to get your head out of the despair that an unwavering schedule can cause. And with the money you earn from your 8-hour workday, hopefully, you can actually go on a vacation that helps.

It’s tough not to get stuck in this everyday cycle, but we have to remember to make the most of every day, and even every hour we are given in this life. We said goodbye to the magnificent Dolly Parton this week, and we are sure she would be the first to tell you that you need to live your life to the fullest every second of every day.
