29-year-old husband stops cooking for his wife, only cooks for 35-year-old female coworker, doesn’t understand why wife is upset: ‘He said it’s nice to find someone who appreciates his efforts and who puts satisfaction over vanity around her weight’

Cooking is a highly intimate act.

Cooking for someone is an act of love. You know this if you’ve ever had a meal prepared by someone who loves you. It tastes better. It just does. It’s an intimate thing… to make food for someone. It takes time and effort and care in a way that makes your synapses fire. That said, it’s good to be generous with your cooking arts. It’s nice to cook for people, so you shouldn’t be sparing with that love. But are there certain people it’s inappropriate to cook for? The wife in this story thought so and had good reason to back her feelings up. Since cooking is so intimate, you should be mindful of who you cook for and when, especially if it’s a woman other than your wife.

It’s nice to do things for other people, but you should be careful that they don’t misconstrue your attention. Maybe you’re just being nice to someone because you want to be nice. But maybe they think you’re giving them romantic attention. You have to be careful to get ahead of this if you feel it happen, no matter who you are, but especially if you’re married. Even if you didn’t mean to give someone the wrong idea, it’s your responsibility to set those boundaries anyway. You’re the one who’s in the committed relationship, and it’s on you to make sure your partner feels respected at all times. That’s not what happened in this story.
