If you are into wholesome stories about a girl and her horse, there are many options out there for you. One of my personal favorites is National Velvet from 1944 because of how stacked the cast is. We’ve got baby Elizabeth Taylor playing Velvet Brown, a teen girl who, you guessed it, loves horses. Baby Angela Lansbury plays her older sister, and Mickey Rooney plays a jockey who helps Velvet train her horse for the grand national; hence National Velvet. 

Before National Velvet, boys dominated the horse genre, but ever since, there have been so many movies about a sensitive young girl training a rambunctious horse for some sort of horse competition. Her father usually doesn’t trust her to train the horse, but she proves him wrong, and he learns he should’ve had more faith in her talents.
