Memes, just like all forms of comedy, can quickly become irrelevant. Comedy is the quickest art form to age and the most likely to age poorly because it’s entirely dependent on the moment they were made. I can watch a 2012 drama like Silver Linings Playbook and not find it unwatchable and dated. Heck, I can watch dramas from the 1950s and quickly get past their datedness. Comedy is much more challenging to keep funny after its original release. There are some exceptions, like Some Like it Hot, but the comedy that ages well is usually the comedy that was not adequately appreciated during its time. The people in the 70s just weren’t ready for the John Waters jokes that feel fresh today.
The following memes are not vestiges of a past meme glory, nor are they so esoteric that they can’t be understood quite yet. They’re merely fun modern memes.
