There have been many famous doctors in history, but none of them come close to Florence Nightingale’s influence. She literally invented modern nursing, and none of those medieval divas who came before she could ever meaningfully compete. She was all about making sure that soldiers were living in hygienic conditions, which miraculously helped save so many lives. Who would have thought? Nightingale wasn’t right about everything. If she were, that would be wild. She took the whole clean freak thing to the extreme, theorizing that bad smells and filth caused diseases, which generally wasn’t true for most Victorian diseases.
