Is there a game as customizable and ever-changing as Dungeons and Dragons? Perhaps not. There are hardly ever new editions of Monopoly, and if there are, they aren’t changing much. Video games have sequels and chapters, but everyone pretty much has the same playing experience. Sure, you can build whatever you dream of in Minecraft, but it will always be in the Minecraft world. 

DnD is special because it relies on the human imagination. In order for it to function, you need a group of willing and creative participants. And then, the possibilities are infinite and endless. You can set it in any world you like, craft your characters however you may, and play at your own pace. Hey, if you want to spend a whole session just chatting with an NPC, that’s up to you (though your DM might not like it). And then, after a hard-won game, you can look at these memes as a reward.
