Are you ready for some tweets?

Here in the United States, it’s Memorial Day weekend. Which might mean you have the day off on Monday, so you’re taking the opportunity to get the heck out of town and to go commune with nature, friends, and food. Maybe you’re dreaming up the brats that you’re gonna grill, and the potato salad you’re gonna make to go on the side. Maybe you’re making plans for the summer. You’re thinking about all the things you want to get up to, and realizing that you only have time for some of it. That’s the sweet sadness of summer. We wait for it all year, especially if you live in a four-season climate, as I do, and then, as soon as it comes, it almost feels like it’s over. The summer has a way of going by in the blink of an eye, and then before you know it, the kids are back off to school, and you’re putting on your flannel jacket. But not yet. Not now. No, at Memorial Day weekend, things are only just beginning. It’s the Friday of the summer. It’s all possibilities, wth nothing truly unfolding yet. Everything exists as a potentiality. This is my favorite kind of weekend. I guess every weekend could be this kind of weekend if I just switched perspectives, but that’s pretty hard to do if you’re not a literal monk. But if you’re not lucky enough to be spending time with friends or family, and throwing some meat on the grill, then you’ll probably still need a little bit of company. These memes and tweets are here to do just that. A good tweet makes you feel a little less alone in the world. They make you feel like everything is possible, and that everything that exists can be turned into a joke. And to me, that prospect is comforting. I like knowing that nothing has to be truly serious.
