What the hell is an NFT? Someone tried to explain it to me once and from what I gathered from that conversation, they’re like one-of-a-kind digital trading cards that are also kind of destroying the rainforest. You might be thinking, wait a minute, one-of-a-kind? Can’t anyone download or screenshot a digital file? That’s where things get weird. NFT evangelists insist that because they live on the ethereum blockchain, NFTs cannot be copied, even if you literally right-click it and hit «save.» Or something like that. But whether my boomer brain gets it or not, people are continuing to buy them, and as long as people are buying them, they have value (speculative or otherwise). The same goes for cryptocurrency. The problem is, many people have been losing all their money through crypto scams, hacks, and NFT ponzi schemes. Decentralized finance might sound like a cool utopian dream in theory, but in reality, it’s pretty easy for vulnerable and impressionable people to get hurt when there’s very little regulation protecting them.

That said, it’s pretty fun to laugh at evangelical crypto fanatics from time to time. Twitter account Crypto Bros Taking Ls does an excellent job spreading awareness about the risks of trading cypto while also allowing us to laugh about the fails and follies of overconfident crypto bros.
