I really don’t trust people who are flippant towards mistreating animals. Everyone always says that harming animals at a young age is the sign of a psychopath, but I find it much more unnerving in adults. You’re telling me you’ve lived 30+ years on this earth, and you still don’t know that animals don’t deserve to be deprived just because you, a human, don’t personally like them?
I understand the frustration that some parents have with pet parents. They act like their struggles are similar, as if getting a dog isn’t a much smaller lifestyle change than having a baby. These are indeed very different levels of responsibility, but at the end of the day, they are both still living, breathing creatures that wholly depend on you for their survival. It’s not wacky for a single childless person to prioritize their pet’s well-being over the comfort of other people’s children.
